Get Glowing!Wash your face with a gentle, oil- and fragrance-free cleanser; preferably a nondetergent one labeled pH balanced. If you have oily skin all over your face, use a cleanser that contains benzoil peroxide or salicylic acid.Don't scrub - irritated skin (Evangeline Lilly) swells around the pores, which can cause breakouts.Skip toner unless your face is very oily, otherwise it might dry out the skin.face treat photo TREAT!Apply a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid over your entire face, not just where blemishes have already erupted. At night, use a drying spot-treatment product and dab oil-free moisturizer on dry areas. In the morning, apply an oil-free sunscreen gel over the entire face.face conceal photo CONCEAL!Use a small makeup brush to dab concealer or cream foundation Evangeline Lilly (in the exact same shade as your skin) directly onto the blemish. Use a fingertip to wipe away excess concealer around the blemish and, if necessary, apply another coat of concealer. If the makeup becomes cakey, carefully wipe it off and start over. gently brush powder (in the exact same shade as your skin) on top of the concealer.Tricks Of The Trade:* If you have oily skin and feel that you need toner, apply it only on the T-zone, and rinse it off afterward (leaving it on can dry the skin turn back the clock). Use a clay mask as often as every three days to absorb excess oil.* To stop redness and swelling in an emergency situation (job interview, wedding), ask your doctor for a cortisone injection. It calms down a pimple almost instantly.* If you can't get to your dermatologist (or needles make you squemish), temporarily reduce redness and swelling by dabbing on a drop of drugstore cortisone cream, Preparation H, or Vasocon-A eyedrops.

1 Vote(s)

Do a quick check of any woman's bathroom, and chances are you'll find jars of rarely used face cream, the dregs of a favorite powder blush, and at least one tube of lip gloss squeezed within an inch of its life. This hoarding habit has a catch because beauty products go bad. At best, they stop performing as well as they used to, and at worst, they can cause irritations or infections. U.S. labeling regulations don't require an expiration date on most cosmetics, but Good Housekeeping has some easy tips on when to throw away what. Toss-it time: Six months for liquids; two years for powders. You increase the odds of bacterial growth when you repeatedly dip your brushes and fingers into liquid foundation. Powders present less of a problem, because bacteria can't grow where there isn't any water. Over time, powders with botanical ingredients such as aloe or jojoba can become harder to blend and are more likely to crumble, as their trace amounts of water evaporate. Toss-it time: Three months. "A mascara tube is a dark, wet environment - the perfect breeding ground for bacteria," said New York City optometrist Andrea Thau. "Preservatives in a mascara only work for so long." Three-month-old mascara is a nonperformer. To avoid hastening the demise of mascara, never pump the wand - that pushes air into the tube, causing it to dry out faster. Instead, slowly draw out and twist the brush to scrape the tube's interior and pick up product. Toss-it time: Liquid eyeliners, three months; cream eye shadows, six months; pencil eyeliners and powder eye shadows, two years. Bacteria tend to flourish in liquid-eyeliner tubes. Pencil eyeliners have a longer shelf life because you can create a fresh, clean surface each time you sharpen them. Just be sure to regularly sanitize your sharpener with rubbing alcohol. Powder shadows are less prone to contamination because they also lack water (if you wet them, toss after six months). Aging eye shadows have performance issues - they get packed down, making it harder to pick up pigment with your brush, said makeup artist Cristina Bartolucci. Toss-it time: Lipstick and gloss, two years; lipliner, two years or more. A lipstick's water content makes it a potential minireservoir of bacteria. Lipsticks also dry out with age. According to New York City makeup artist Tina Turnbow, older lipsticks "no longer look creamy on the lips." Long-wearing formulas may have an even shorter life span, because they often contain ingredients that evaporate more quickly than creamier formulas. Pencil lipliners may last a little longer because putting them through a sharpener removes the old surface. * On another matter: Redoing the floors in your home can lead to makeover madness. Good Housekeeping suggests you stay grounded with help from the World Floor Covering Association's amped-up Web site. On wfca.org, you'll learn care tips for each type of surface and take quizzes to learn what you should choose, from bamboo to Berber. You can virtually "install" your choices on the site's preloaded example rooms. Or for $25, try the advanced feature, in which you upload and customize photos of your room with as many as 826 floor styles and find out what each version would cost.

1 Vote(s)

There is a way to stretch your beauty dollar and it is as close as your kitchen or grocery store.Have you ever thought of exfoliating your hands with a few walnuts? KMBC's Kelly Eckerman reported that because walnuts are rich in oil and have a rough texture, they make a gentle skin exfoliater.Oatmeal can be used to calm and soften skin. Avocado oil can help sensitive or dry skin. The oils are abundant in fatty acids that help balance the skin's moisture levels.Have you tried washing your hair in beer to give it volume? Yeast and hops are supposed to plump the hair, and the beer's acidity can remove buildup. A rich beer works better than a light beer.Consider using oatmeal as a skin softener, oranges to slough dry skin, and add milk to your bath to soften skin. Apple cider vinegar may help with blemishes.

2 Vote(s)

If you have acne you've probably tried all the over the counter products and maybe even the prescription products on the market. Perhaps they don't work for you or they irritate your skin and dry it out. There are other options. Herbal treatments and nutritional supplements can also help with acne, either applied directly to the skin or taken orally. Zinc supplements worked wonders for me. I take 50 milligrams a day, twice daily and it helps keep my skin clearer than any prescription I've ever tried. You can find Zinc at a grocery store or drug store in the aisle with vitamin and mineral supplements. At Wal-Mart it's only $2.13 a bottle. You can also order from catalogs and online websites. Herbs that work wonders at clearing up acne are: Echinacea taken orally and applied externally to the skin, Oregon grape root applied as a cream, tea tree oil applied to the skin, oregano and basil oil applied to the skin or taken orally. Be careful using any new product because you may be sensitive to it and if you are using any prescriptions or other topical acne treatments you might have to watch out for reactions. Check with your dermatologist to make sure it is alright to use any herbal treatments with the medicine you are already using.

2 Vote(s)

If the stretch marks present with brown discoloration or red pigmentation, we successfully use non-ablative lasers (no downtime) to help resolve the color. We also have technology to help improve the texture surrounding these areas. Setting realistic expectations and outcomes for our patients is our priority.

3 Vote(s)

Now we have a new claim: certain bottled water can act as an anti-aging product. The product is Penta Water, a premium bottled water from Carlsbad, CA. Now I have a healthy skepticism about bottled water, and a real aversion to cluttering our landfills with more plastic bottles. But --this water seems to be the fountain of youth. The Penta company has done a study that proves its water has anti-aging capabilities, at least for the skin."The study, conducted by world renowned dermatologist Dr. Jean Krutmann and the Environmental Health Research Institute showed that human skin cells cultured in Penta water had significantly less damage from ultraviolet radiation than skin cells cultured in plain water. This lends itself to the belief that Penta water may have anti-oxidative and anti-aging effects. To further validate the claim that Penta may act as an antioxidant or may facilitate antioxidant activity, Penta has commissioned The University of California, Davis to carry out additional studies regarding the hydration characteristics, antioxidant characteristics and anti-aging characteristics of Penta water."Well, I'd be also wondering whether all water contains those qualities, especially since as we have learned recently, much of our tap water contains minute amounts of many different pharmaceuticals and supplements. In addition, our experts feel that for the skin, anyway, hydration comes from oils, rather than from water.

3 Vote(s)

Drinking more water will reduce cellulite.FALSE. In fact, the idea that drinking more water will help any skin condition is erroneous unless you're truly medically dehydrated. Nor does drinking more water eliminate any cellulite-causing toxins. Overhydration can actually increase the appearance of cellulite.Exercise will prevent cellulite.FALSE. Even the fittest female athlete can develop cellulite. Still, the less fat you have, the less likely it is to spill over that web of fibrous bands, so by all means, exercise away to burn fat and increase muscle.Liposuction removes cellulite.FALSE. Because tight bands of fibrous tissue cause cellulite, extracting the fat layer that resides just under the skin may actually worsen that dimpled look. "I would recommend liposuction for contour improvements in patients with stubborn fat deposits, but I would never recommend liposuction to anyone as a primary cellulite treatment," says Boynton Beach, Florida, plastic surgeon David Rosenstein, MD.A healthy diet will prevent cellulite.FALSE. Eating well is always a good idea, but specific foods won't prevent or cure cellulite. Still, junk food that makes you fat may make you more prone to dimples. And beware of all those so-called anti-cellulite supplements. There's no proof that they're effective.Cellulite only occurs in women.FALSE. Some men do get cellulite, and industry data show that at least 6,000 American males sought treatment for it last year. Recent research suggests that cellulitic males may have lower levels of the hormone androgen. Still, far fewer males get the dimples. One reason: Male connective tissue lies in a firmer crisscross pattern than the female connective-tissue matrix.

2 Vote(s)

You have to go to your prom party and of course everybody there will be very elegant and you don't know what to wear? Don't worry, you can start choose the right plus size prom dress for you, online. Thus, you can find the dress you need and you can as well find suggestions about the way you can match your dress to your shoes, scarf or makeup. Therefore you can find any information you need for a perfect evening. You will find there a lot of styles and colors for plus size prom dresses. You can try a simple, black dress. These dresses need accessories of course. So you can try metallic heels for a very elegant and classical look. You can add a necklace with a heart shape pendant and you are ready for the party. Your dress can be combined with other accessories too, but you don't have to exaggerate. Remember that you are going to an important event, not to the disco. There are other options too for plus size prom dresses. You can choose charming dresses and you can have a dramatic look wearing a dress which has two braces which can be buttoned round your neck. If you choose this type of plus size prom dress, you don't need a necklace. You need only some earrings and a bracelet and you are ready for an evening during which you will have fun and you will relax. You will feel great only if you realize that you look great.Avoid very Tight DressesYou can wear as well a plus size prom dress made of atlas but you have to make sure that it is not tight on your body. The atlas has the tendency to highlight all the defaults. You don't have to be afraid of it, because an atlas dress can be very elegant and can look very well if it is properly adapted to your body. You should be daring and wear something bright in order to highlight you and to make you feel good. Remember that you must not wear a very tight dress on your waist; in order not to get people watch that area, which you are not very proud of. You can choose as loose plus size prom dresses made of chiffon, but you must be careful not to wear a lot of flounces or too loose sleeves. These accessories will add some kilos to your aspect and this is not your purpose of course. Now you have the possibility to choose, and to be proud of yourself even if you have more kilos than your slim friends. You can make everybody watch you and admire you.It is very important to wear a dress adapted to our body, without being terrified that everybody will notice that we have some more kilos. Of course, the healthiest solution is to get rid of them, but if you are that type of woman who is not interested in losing weight, we have plenty of prom dress models for you.

2 Vote(s)

And what kind of make-up remover is better for my complexion? These are some questions what you're asking every day. You can find the answer here!Mixed complexionHow you recognize it: There's a sebum-excess on the forehead, nose and chin (the T-zone) and the rest of the skin is dry.Advantages: It's easy to take care of it with special cosmetic products. These must contain ingredients which absorbs the sebum-excess on the T-zone, but keeping the best hydration level on the dry zones.Taking-care: Clean it with remover and apply the tonic lotion only on the T-zone.At day: Choose a moisturizing day-cream and apply by massage, insisting on the cheeks and temples. If you notice some surplus of cream on the T-zone, collide the zone with a napkin. And keep special attention to the outline of the eyes. Here the skin is dry and it wrinkles easier. So, use a special cream for the eyes, from the same assortment like the day- and night-cream.At night: Use a night-cream as hydrating as the day-cream. When you remove the make-up use a special remover for the eyes; take care of this zone more carefully.

3 Vote(s)

The number of Americans being diagnosed with and also living with type 2 diabetes is soaring, presenting a major health and economic crisis for the United States, a new study reports. "What's alarming is we have 47 million uninsured people, but these people [in the study, enrolled under Medicare] are all insured. So in this kind of insured program, we have so many people who are not adhering to the recommended care," said Frank Sloan, lead author of the study published in the Jan. 28 issue of theArchives of Internal Medicine. Sloan is professor of health policy and management at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing not only in an aging population, but in younger persons as well. The condition brings with it high risks of complications such as blindness, kidney disease, eye disease and amputations. To see whether health outcomes in older people with diabetes in the United States improved from the period 1994 to 2004, the study authors analyzed Medicare claims and other data. This information was compared with two "control" groups of people without diabetes. Between 1994-95 and 2003-04, the annual incidence of diabetes (new diagnoses) increased by 23 percent, while the prevalence (those living with the disease) increased by 62 percent. Complication rates among people with diabetes stayed the same or increased. Strikingly, there was a large increase in kidney disease. Most individuals with diabetes had at least one complication within six years of diagnosis. Almost half had congestive heart failure. The study points to a stark need for preventive strategies, said Dr. Spyros Mezitis, an endocrinologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. "What we're doing is treating, and we're not treating the problem at the beginning," he said. "Already one-third of the budget for Medicare is for diabetes. This is an epidemic, and we're not doing much to prevent it, and we're not doing very well controlling it. It's going to get worse before it gets better." Jane Bolin, associate professor of health policy and management at Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health in College Station, added: "It starts back at prevention and has to do with healthier lifestyles and teaching people how to monitor themselves. Right now, self-management is not reimbursable [by Medicare] unless done under certain conditions, and it puts a hardship on a lot of patients. I think we're becoming better at diagnosing and dealing with complications, but we need to move back further to prevention." An estimated 19 million to 20 million Americans have type 2 diabetes, and about one-third of them don't even know they have the disease. It is characterized by high levels of blood sugar that are caused by the body's inability to process the hormone insulin to transport blood sugar to cells for energy. Another study in the same issue of the journal questions how accurate Medicare data is in reflecting the health and health needs of the U.S. population. Clinical trials used by Medicare to make decisions about coverage include participants who are not representative of the actual Medicare population, said the study authors, from the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. Trial participants tended to be younger, male and living in countries outside the United States, the researchers said.

2 Vote(s)

The common wisdom about weight loss has always been to eat less and less. You may lose some weight, but along with feeling terrible, you have no energy to exercise (if you're getting any). So you loose muscle and get flabby, not fit or toned. Well, that's not very attractive. We gain weight when we consume more calories in food and drink than we burn up. To lose weight, we need to shift that balance and burn up more than we consume. We can accomplish that by consuming fewer calories, burning more, or both. Cutting calories doesn't necessarily have to mean going on a "diet." It can just mean avoiding or limiting one or more foods high in calories from fat (such as high-fat meat, cheese, or snack foods, or too much added fat), lots of sugar (like sweets or sweetened drinks), or alcohol. Cutting calories can also be accomplished by reducing our portion sizes, or by eating smaller portions of those high-calorie foods and filling up on larger portions of low-calorie vegetables and fruits. Burn fat with fatMonounsaturated fats, omega-3 fats and fish oils all play a role in keeping your body and your mind in top shape. The fats found in fish and shellfish, avocados, olives, nuts, nut butters, seeds and healthy oils like olive, canola and peanut help control appetite, improve mood and cognitive function and decrease fat cell size and numbers.Diets too low in fat also decrease coping skills, increasing stress, anxiety and frustration.
Do you sometimes think that you would kill for beautiful full lips? Sure, you could get Collagen implants, or tattooed outlines around your lip... But it's a little bit excessive, I'm sure you'll agree! There are other cheaper, and much more practical, ways of achieving a similar affect. Here's how to get beautiful full lips in four easy steps...Step one: Lip balm babePrepare your delicate lips with a generous slick of lip balm in advance. Nobody likes cracked and frayed lips! And in this cold winter weather its important to take more care than usual. (Cold weather will dry the moisture from your lips). Make sure that the lip balm has sunk a little before you go on to step two, otherwise your lip liner won't work.Step two: Line and defineGet a natural lip liner, and carefully draw around the very rim of your lips. If you get a wobbly line, don't panic (and don't think nobody will notice it)... just carefully remove it and start again! When you have a firm line fill in the rest of your lips with the same color.Step three: Now add some shine! Here comes the glamorous bit, the lip-gloss! Again, keep the color natural. Forget lipstick that's too dark or too light. One thing you've gotta remember though, gloss looks better but doesn't have the staying power of lippy. Make sure you keep it in your purse and re-apply during the day.Step four: Plump them upThis is the a4hard bit'. But actually it's not! All you've got to do, (after you've completed steps one through three), is dot a white shimmery product like eye shadow or an eyebrow highlighter in the very center of your lips. Start slowly, and blend very carefully. What you are looking to achieve is natural looking shading, with your lip color being lighter where your mouth opens. This will create the illusion of beautiful full lips.Oh, one last thing. Remember, people always want what they haven't got, so don't fret... just make the best of what you've got. And you know what they say; if you've got it, flaunt it!So pucker up, and be sweet!

2 Vote(s)

FOR most of us a shampoo bearing the name of a celebrity hairdresser will be the closest we'll get to the real thing.Richard Ward is the latest celeb snipper to introduce a range of products available to non-Alisters. His products hit stores early next year but the competition is tough as there are tonnes of celeb crimper wannabes already fighting for space on the supermarket shelves. The blurbs on the sexy packaging promise to give us lustrous, gorgeous, Hollywood-style hair. But are the 'designer' products any good?We asked a team of Sun girls to try out the leading 'celebrity' ranges for one week giving them marks out of 20 and here are the results:

1 Vote(s)

You know that annoying person who shows up late to a movie, or play, or whatever. Everyone else who managed to get there on time is seated, quiet, and ready to go -- but someone had to wander in five minutes late and hold everything up. Grr. What gives? How hard is it to show up before something starts? Sit down and shut up already, I'm trying to watch! On Saturday, that annoying person was Beyonc, who, along with Jay-Z and her bodyguard, held up the Versace men's collection runway show in Milan. Normally that wouldn't be the end of the world -- after all, it's a big deal for designers when celebs check out their runway shows, so I'm sure everyone was happy to accommodate such a high-profile late arrival.

3 Vote(s)
